Race Series Rules & Details
Registration
Individuals
Individuals are automatically entered into the series via their participation in any series event.
It’s helpful for individuals to register for events with a consistent name. Final results are not guaranteed with inconsistent names (i.e. Matt vs Matthew).
Teams
Teams must register by January 6, 2026 for all event points to be counted (points from previous races prior to January 6, 2026 will be counted retroactively.)
If teams register after January 6, 2026, only event points on or after their date of registration will be counted.
Teams do not need to register as a team through the specific events.
Team Criteria - 10 person capacity; 5 male, 5 female - non-binary persons welcome in either category. You can have fewer members- these are the maximum numbers.
Scoring Points
Individual Placement Points
All events are scored separately for different genders.
Scroll down for the score calculation per race!
Every individual who races in a series event is considered a participant, so points will be assigned to each racer (even if they have never heard of the Tour de Finn!)
Every placement race in the series generates points based on the placement of the individual in relation to the size of the race field.
The minimum number of points a racer can receive for completing an event is 20 (e.g. the last place racer will receive 20 points instead of 0). Every racer beyond the 20 points continues to receive 20 points for participation.
Racers will receive 20 points for participating in any race at a series event, even if it's not the placement race for that event. For example, at the Vasaloppet USA, the 35K skate race will generate placement points up to 100, but a racer could do the 42K and still receive 20 points.
There is an age advantage bonus, which takes the form of additional points added to a racer's score for every race they participate in.
Skiers under 45 receive 0 bonus points.
The total score earned for any race is capped at 100, including your placement and your age advantage bonus.
Team Placement Points
Racers may only belong to one team.
Each event we score the Top 3 women and Top 3 men per team, any non-binary athletes may score towards either category.
The teams with the highest number of points at the end of the season win.
In case of a tie in total points, the team with the most total points in any one individual event will be declared the winner. In the case of a further tie, the team with the most participation in all the events will be declared the winner.

Series Administration
Event Cancellations and Modifications
In the case of an event cancellation, the series will go on without it.
In the case of an event being shortened or modified, the modified event will be counted.
In the case of an event rescheduling, if there is no conflicting series race that weekend, the rescheduled event will continue to count toward the series points.
If there is an already scheduled series event on the same weekend as a rescheduled event, the placement points will go to the event that was originally scheduled for that weekend.
The Tour de Finn may add an event in the spirit of replacing any canceled events, provided there is one-week of notice and under $75 in registration fees.
